Richard III (Davenport Ancestral Connection – 4th Cousin 17X Removed, McCain Line 13th Great Granduncle)

Richard III (1452–1485) was the last king of the House of York and the final Plantagenet monarch of England. He came to the throne during the turbulent Wars of the Roses following the death of his brother, Edward IV.

Historical Context

Richard’s reign (1483–1485) remains one of the most debated periods in English history. After Edward IV’s death, his young son Edward V was declared illegitimate, and Richard III became king.

Historical accounts written during the Tudor period portrayed Richard negatively, including accusations regarding the disappearance of the Princes in the Tower. However, these events remain unproven and widely debated among historians.

Death and Legacy

Richard III was killed at the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485, marking the end of the Wars of the Roses and the rise of the Tudor dynasty under Henry VII.

He is often depicted in literature and media, including The White Queen and satirical works such as Horrible Histories, which reflect his controversial reputation in popular culture.
